ERTMS subproject that defines and develops the on-board equipment (standard European cab). The heart of the EUROCAB system consists of a computer, European Vital Computer (EVC), and connection lines, ERTMS Buses between the computer and the various modules necessary to detect the information relating to the running of the trains from the ground. The EVC must be able to calculate the permissible speed, and monitor the running of the train on the basis of this as well as being operational during any movement of the train. The ERTMS Bus represents, therefore, the means of relationship that connects, on the trains, the functional units that make up the on-board equipment, through appropriate interfaces: the central EVC computer, the tacho and tachograph equipment, the pneumatic devices for braking control, and others. In order to make the on-board equipment interoperable with existing command/control systems, special antennas or sensors are required on the traction systems to ensure dialogue with the ground equipment of the different train spacing systems used on European lines. These antennas are connected to the ERTMS Bus through special interfaces called Specific Transmission Module (STM), which have the task of translating the information provided by the train control systems already in existence into ERTMS format, ie a standardized European command/control system in the various European railway networks
