Fail Safe

Intrinsically safe failure. In security systems, technical design and construction of intrinsically safe equipment and systems, for which any failure self-selects and activates internal resources (Negation) that lead to a state that does not compromise Security; this state determines suitable exit conditions or alternative modes of operation. The types of measures can be implemented using different techniques (eg that tolerate or avoid faults, composite, reactive, intrinsic and indirect techniques), adopted individually or in combination between them. See Fault tolerance, Fault avoidance, Composite Fail Safety, Reactive Fail Safety, Inherent Fail Safety, Safety integrity
