GPS. Satellite location detection system. It consists of a certain number of satellites, originally placed in orbit by the United States, which ensure the coverage of the globe, initially for defense purposes, and subsequently at the disposal of aerial, land and naval vehicles for civil applications. The position, which can be calculated on board the mobile with a certain precision and improved with other references (differential GPS), can be used by the vehicle itself and transmitted to receiving ground stations, coordination centers or similar.
