GSM-R. GSM digital radio transmission system for the ERTMS system. The system offers support for all types of communication involving railways: voice and data, communications between on-board train staff and ground personnel, including remote automatic traction control. It represents a mandatory step for interoperability between the various European networks. For the realization of this system we started from the base of the GSM network. For GSM – R the frequency band, recommended by the European frequency regulator (CEPT), is 4 MHz: 876-880 for transmission from a mobile terminal to a fixed network infrastructure (uplink, MS transmits, BTS receives) and 921-925 MHz for the opposite transmission (downlink, BTS transmit, MS receive).
