Modem

Modulation and Demodulation electronic device used in data transmissions between distant computers. The modem, in transmission, receives digital signals from the computer, transforms them into an analogue form by modulating an analog signal, then sends them to a remote modem via a communication line. In reception it receives the modulated analogue signal, from a remote modem, through a communication line, then it demodulates it and transforms it into a digital form, suitable to be sent to the computer to which the modem is connected. The maximum data transmission speed of a modem on a traditional telephone line is typically 56 Kbps, it can be 64-128 Kbps and 640/128 Kbps respectively on ISDN and ADSL lines
