Device that allows the detection of the passage of any rolling stock on a given track point. In general it has the function of determining the freedom of the section upstream of the train or sending another signal; in certain cases it automatically controls the level crossing barriers; other special types of magnetic action pedals are involved in the Axes Count Locking System (BCA). The operation can take place in three ways: by bending the rails (pedal P40 and P70); by magnetic action; by action of the rim of the wheels (SILEC pedal). The pedals can be classified according to their use in: announcement pedals, they have the function of revealing the passage of the train; release pedals, they have the function of freeing a lever or a consent handle of a locking instrument; control pedals, used to control level crossing barriers; axis counting pedals, used in lines with Axes Count Block; pedals hot bushings, used for the Thermal Detection device of the axles of the trains (RTB).
