Railway junction

Railway center. Conventional term that defines a railway area normally coinciding with important metropolitan settlements, characterized by a high density and relative complexity of medium-large stations and other railway plants (sorting, locomotive depots, material parks, etc.). This area isinterconnected by various lines, which represent the continuation of the main routes entering the same node as well as other lines, designed to facilitate the management of circulation of different traffic currents and alternative routes, namely belts and service braces (eg for movements of translation) etc. A railway junction, whose reference area is often conventionally defined, delimited by a Station, is also characterized by the presence of intense and heterogeneous traffic (high-speed services, regional, goods), often representing an area of Intermodal or intramodal interchange
