Superelevation of the track

Cant of the track. Height increase of the external rail of the track in curves with respect to the internal rail. This superelevation serves to reduce the centrifugal acceleration and therefore the effect of the centrifugal force that is generated in a section of track in a curve. The extent of superelevation depends on various factors, such as the radius of curvature and the maximum speed expected for that particular section of line; the maximum elevation is 16 cm
