Draw gear. Draft gear. Organs that transmit the traction effort from the locomotive to all the towed vehicles of the train. They consist of the mechanical elements that connect one vehicle to the other, composed of a traction hook to which a tensioner is attached, regulated, in the right tensioning with a handlebar screw. Vehicle traction can be continuous or discontinuous. In continuous traction the attachment members located at the end of each vehicle, in addition to being fixed to the respective head cross members, are connected to each other by means of rigid rods located along the frame; the tractive effort, in this way, is transmitted through the rods by hook to hook and does not affect the structure of the vehicle as a whole. In the discontinuous traction there are no rigid rods and therefore the effort is transmitted through the frame of each vehicle
