User Group ERTMS

User Group of ERTMS (European Railway Train Management System). GEIE Consortium initially set up by the Italian, German and French railways (FS, DB-AG and SNFC) then extended to other railways in different countries (such as Holland, Spain, Great Britain); represents the user group of the ERTMS system. The consortium is responsible for the technical-functional specification and for equipping the three main pilot sites (Germany, Italy and France) and others, planned for field tests and system tests. This evaluation activity includes the specifications concerning functional tests and interoperability tests. The interoperability validation, in particular, foresees a three-phase experimentation program: tests on the three sites within the three different functional levels foreseen by the ERTMS; test on transitions from one functional level to another; tests on the railway network of the EEIG members, both on lines equipped with existing national systems (eg BAcc, LZB and TVM) and on pilot lines equipped with ERTMS. The specifications being tested form the basis for future European standardization in the field of signaling. The definitions of the general concepts relating to the security of the system as a whole and the common procedures for certification, based on the principle of mutual acceptance (Cross acceptance), are also provided
